The Cottages
All eleven of the cottages have their own distinct charm and personality. The ten original cottages were built in 1939. They were on the main road in Ocean Park a little ways south of Jack’s Country Store. These cottages are pier-and-post, and sometime in the 1950s they were moved onto the current property and a house was built for the owners to live in. My, oh my, if these little cottages could talk… Four of the cottages are roughly 400 square feet and have one enclosed bedroom, the living room, a bathroom with shower and a full kitchen/dining area. One cottage is roughly 400 square feet and has two enclosed bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, full kitchen/living room/dining area. The other five cottages are smaller; roughly 288 square feet. Two of them have a bedroom in the back of the cottage, living room in the front, full kitchen/dining area and a bathroom with shower. The other three have an open, studio-type floor plan, bathroom with shower, full kitchen/dining/living area and the bed is more toward the far end of the studio. Each of these cottages has a covered carport; some share with their neighbor, some don’t. All cottages are heated electrically with wall heaters. All exterior walls are cedar shingled. All roofs of cottages and carports are composition. All bathrooms have been remodeled and updated over the last 10 years. Upgrades: State-of-the-art computerized septic system installed (replacing cesspools) in 1999; all electrical upgraded and transferred from fuses to breakers upon acquiring the property in 1995. All cottages refurnished/redecorated within the first five years of ownership with continued upgrades and replacements as needed and as funds allowed. In November 2006 we acquired our newest cottage. This cottage is a hand-crafted portable unit, and unless I told you so, you would never know it! It is roughly 375 square feet, has cedar lap exterior walls and skirting, covered porch, metal roofing, tongue-and-groove pine interior walls, vaulted ceilings, one bedroom, one bathroom with shower, full kitchen with propane stove, forced air heating (propane). Extra charm is added by the handcrafted accents throughout the cottage, both by the manufacturer and a local woodworker.
