If you have never been self-employed before, GET READY! It’s a whole new ball game. Providing hospitality to humankind and being your own boss, setting and keeping your own high standards, making your own schedule and enjoying a profoundly different level of pride and celebration of what you offer the public is, indeed, fulfilling. We are coming full circle to the beginning of what I mentioned in the beginning of this site: living in paradise and providing gracious service to your guests. I have found such enormous fulfillment and peace living on such a beautiful piece of land, while simultaneously sharing this experience with our guests. I never got tired of checking guests in and hearing them tell me that a sort of peace came over them as soon as they crossed the bridge. To share the wonder of Nature in all of her majesty with my guests were conversations that I continued to have and enjoy throughout the years. To live more simply without the noise, clamor and pressure of city life and city schedules——aahhhh. Sure, it gets pretty non-stop busy in the summer, and in the off-season there is time for a slower pace. We have a consistent stream of off-season clientele, so revenues come in throughout the year. You get to decide where you want to steer the Cove. This is the great thing about self-employment. Since the departure of my business partner, we have not been as aggressive in our marketing because of the overwhelming nature of her departure, both emotionally and professionally. I had to “absorb”, if you will, her half of the business, and I am profoundly grateful for Harriet’s help and the relative seamlessness with which we continued business as usual. As mentioned in the “Business” section, there is room for a revived marketing push to generate even more revenues.
